Mission Hills Legacy Stone Guidelines

Each Legacy Stone is offered with a $250 contribution to the Mission Hills Garden Club. Contributions support the Garden Club’s beautification efforts, community programs, and scholarships.

Engraving is limited to three lines, 14 letters and spaces each line.  All inscriptions are subject to approval by the Mission Hills Garden Club and must comply with established engraving limitations. Sponsors will receive a "proof" of the engraving, and are responsible for reviewing and approving all names, dates, spelling, and wording before the stone is submitted for engraving. Once engraving has begun, changes or refunds may not be possible.

Each Legacy Stone is naturally unique. Size, shape, color, texture, surface characteristics, engraving depth, and lettering appearance may vary. These natural differences are part of the individual character of each stone.

Legacy Stone placement is determined by the Mission Hills Garden Club based on the overall landscape design, available space, maintenance needs, safety, and appearance of the Legacy Stone area. Specific placement requests cannot be guaranteed.

Legacy Stones are installed outdoors and will naturally be exposed to weather, irrigation, soil, landscaping activity, vegetation, foot traffic, and other environmental conditions. Natural weathering and changes in appearance over time should be expected.

Lost, Stolen or Damaged Stones

Because Legacy Stones are displayed in a public outdoor setting, the Mission Hills Garden Club cannot guarantee against theft, vandalism, accidental damage, natural events, or loss. If a stone is confirmed to be missing or damaged beyond reasonable repair, the original sponsor may request a replacement without making another contribution.  The sponsor will be responsible for the current actual cost of the replacement stone, engraving, and any applicable installation expenses. Replacement requests are subject to verification, availability, and Garden Club approval. Replacement stones may vary from the original in size, shape, color, texture, engraving, and placement.

The Mission Hills Garden Club reserves the right to limit or decline repeated replacement requests.

The intention of the Legacy Stone Program is for each stone to serve as a lasting tribute within the Mission Hills community.  From time to time, landscaping, maintenance, improvements, safety considerations, redesign, or other unforeseen circumstances may require a stone or group of stones to be relocated. If relocation becomes necessary, every reasonable effort will be made to relocate the affected Legacy Stones to another appropriate location. A specific placement location cannot be guaranteed indefinitely.

Program Changes

The Mission Hills Garden Club reserves the right to make reasonable changes to the Legacy Stone Program and these guidelines when necessary to accommodate changing circumstances, costs, maintenance requirements, or the long-term needs of the program.

Our Commitment

The Mission Hills Garden Club will make reasonable efforts to preserve the beauty, integrity, and spirit of the Legacy Stone Program so that these stones can continue celebrating the people and stories of Mission Hills for years to come.
